Building a Garden Raised Bed

Building a Garden Raised Bed

Take a look at this raised bed built by the IBRAN team.

In less than an hour, the team at IBRAN assembled this massive three-sided raised bed area.

The brief was simple: create a three-sided raised bed to rap around a new gravel grid patio area.

With a 6% gradient to contend with and various lumps of postcrete to contend with, getting the ground level was the first step in preparing for the installation.

With the ground level and knowing that the new patio would need a solid footing, 50mm of type 1 MOT was levelled and compacted across the whole area, including under the raised bed. Not only does this give the raised bed a solid footing, it aids with drainage which was especially important in this dense clay garden.

With the ground and sub base compacted and level, the next step was to place the first row of blocks on the ground in the finished shape of the bed.

Then the build started to come together with the second layer securing the blocks tightly. This was the time to make adjustments and ensure the blocks are held in their final position.

With everything placed exactly where they should be, 6 more layers were added to the walls. This took the total height to 40cm, ready for the caps to be placed securely on the top.
